West Coast Pedagogies: The Making of a Collective Life at The Intersection of Pedagogy and Aesthetics
In this two-day session we will share the pedagogical and artistic trajectories that characterize Capilano University Children’s Centre’s West Coast Pedagogies. The presentation will trace our work from its initial and crucial inspiration in Loris Malaguzzi’s pedagogical thought and Reggio Emilia principles to the ongoing creation of a West Coast pedagogical ethos. Here, we refer to an ethos because we engage with our pedagogical and artistic practices as more than teaching and learning practices for meaning making. We hope that West Coast pedagogies will inspire the audience to find the vital and catalyzing forces that exist when creating educational processes that are, on one hand, intimately situated in particular historical/cultural inheritances and, on the other hand, are experimental and oriented within creating alternative subjective and collective formations
