We’ve received the sad news that our beloved Sue Fraser passed away last night.
Sue was looking forward to her upcoming trip to Europe, planning to see the last two countries on her “bucket list.”
Sue was a remarkable to gift to everyone in her life.
Among many roles through her remarkable life and career, Sue was the founder of a preschool, an instructor and coordinator in the Early Childhood Education program at Douglas College, the editor of the journal Canadian Children, a founding member of the Vancouver Reggio Consortium, and an author. She participated in the first Canadian group to visit Reggio Emilia in the early 90s, spending a week in the company of Loris Malaguzzi shortly before he died. Her notes from that experience later became her book, Authentic Childhood.
Sue was a generous mentor to many early childhood educators, students, graduate students, and more. In addition to her work in early years, she was generous about sharing her love of art, reading, and gardening. One was always welcome to stop in for a cup of tea in her comfortable sun room or garden.
Sue was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her absence will be felt keenly. Our deep condolences to her family and loved ones.
Her legacy will live on.
