We wanted to develop a space for our children, which was not only inviting but one which the children would feel comfortable and supported to use on their own. To be able to explore any materials they wanted and to not have the educators putting out materials that we wanted. Also, to discover whether a Studio could be functional, open and free in an infant/toddler program.
The most significant learning for us was that our Studio is definitely a place for children to be in where art happens and where they are creative. We feel that the most important aspect of our Studio is that the children are using art as a medium to explore their wonderings, ideas, theories and concepts. Furthermore, much more has come out of the Studio, beyond what we had hoped and imagined. The amazing ideas and the wonderful imaginations of our children have produced beautiful stories and images from their explorations.
This experience has shown us the wonderful possibilities that are waiting for us to discover with the children. All children, even very young children, have the capability and capacity to talk/share/demonstrate their wonderings and theories.
