Our Journey

Realizing that there weren’t any schools in Abbotsford teaching in a Reggio Inspired way, we decided that making materials available to the early childhood community would be a good way to create interest in learning more about how to implement Reggio teaching practices into programs.

It became apparent that there was a very limited knowledge of Reggio Emilia and related teaching practice in the community
for a number of different reasons. Our focus became implementing hands on workshops, to:

  • Create excitement about Reggio Emilia
  • Educate teachers and parents prior to the resource boxes being made available for loan.

Over the past year we have hosted numerous workshops. It has been exciting to see our small group grow and attract participants from different backgrounds (daycares, preschools, college and university instructors, and parents). The changes made in physical environments often open up deeper conversations about the philosophy beyond the physical appearance of childcare environments.

We hope to continue meeting and offering workshops. We are also hoping to offer a consulting service to schools who would like to implement changes. Another long term project is to develop a design and material catalogue to aid educators in
transforming their teaching practice.
